A beautiful HAMMERSLEY & Co. ROYAL WINDSOR Footed Fluted CUP & SAUCER Striking  ROSE pattern #3252/16
, Circa 1950-1970 from Longton, Staffordshire, England
Hammersley & Company, manufacturer of bone china at Alsager Pottery in Longton, England, traces their history back to Harvey Adams & Co. 1869-1885.  Titus Hammersley was a partner and continued the concern as Harvey Adams & Company retiring in 1872.  George Harris Hammersley continued in partnership with Harvey Adams, but was replaced by his brother Gilbert Hammersley about 1885.  The business then traded as Hammersley & Co.  Gilbert was joined by his sons, Eric in 1910 and Leslie in 1919.  The pottery was incorporated in 1932 becoming Hammersley & Co. (Longton) Ltd.  Family control of the business continued until June of 1970 when it was acquired by Carborundum Company (the owner of Spode Ltd.)  Royal Windsor was a trademark used by Hammersley & Co. in the 1950-1970 time period.
This superb quality bone china has color that is bright and vivid on the white background.  This is painted on a blank of fine bone china with gold trim on the edges.  The cup and saucer are tied together by the use of the same rose pattern and gold trim.
While this set is classified as used, we can find no utensil wear or rubbing.  There appears to be absolutely no wear to the vivid color and no crazing.  There are no chips, nicks, hairlines, cracks, scratches, rubbings or repairs to this stunning set.  There is no wear to the gold.
The stand was used as a photo prop and is not included in this listing.
The saucer has a diameter of 5 1/2" & its height is 7/8".  The cup which has a diameter of 2 1/2" at its top and a height of 3 1/8" is equally as beautiful and both ping delightfully when tapped.  The height to the top of the handle is 3 1/2".  The unusually shaped cup has a maximum diameter of 3" at its widest point.
As collectors ourselves, we tend to be very picky and find it necessary to point out anything we see.  We don't believe you will find a Hammersley Royal Windsor cup & saucer set in better condition.  The mark on both is identified as used in the 1950-1970 time period.
Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing.
