    Description

    Black & White Photograph of Lt. Gen. Frank A. Armstrong, Jr. – Col. Armstrong led the first daylight raid ever made by the US Army Air Force over Axis territory. This raid over Rouen-Cotteville, France blasted the target without loss of life or aircraft. Early in 1943, Brig. Gen. Armstrong led the group over Wilhelmshaven in the first heavy bomber raid over Germany proper. During the summer of 1945, he flew numerous missions over oil targets in Japan. He retired July 31, 1962 and died September 1, 1969. Photo is in excellent condition.
    Attached to the photo back with 2 period staples is the pictured notice from the Los Angeles Examiner, dated Oct. 28, 1948.
