    Description

Vintage WWII 1940's photo from US Navy Seabee's photo Album. From Chief Petty Officer Company A  E.J. Algren, Minneapolis, MN 1009th Construction Battalion Detachment.  Only a couple photos had writing.  From the photos, newspaper clipping and online research, I was able to piece together somewhat of a timeline.  He was at Camp Elrod on Espiritu Santo Island, New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) arriving Sept 23, 1943.  Then the 1009th Construction Battalion Detachment  in early 1944 moved to the Russell Islands 30 miles NW of Guadalcanal where they were building and with the Landing Craft Repair Base No. 2. They were there until at least June, 1945
